Improving the conservation status of species in the LAG Belene-Nikopol Area

The Science for Nature Association has started the implementation of  the project “Habitat Dunav” under Contract № BG16M1OP002-3.030-0002-C01.

In the implementation of the project the Association partners with the Municipality of Belene.

The project is funded by the Operational Programme “Environment 2014-2020” (OPE 2014 – 2020) of the European Union, NATURA 2000 and Biodiversity Priority Axis under the procedure “Improvement of the conservation status of species in the Natura 2000 through the CLLD approach in the territory of the Belene-Nikopol LAG“. The grant amounts to 800 000.00 BGN, of which 15% (120 000.00 BGN) national and 85% % (680 000.00 BGN) European co-financing.

The project includes the implementation of 12 activities:

Activity 1: Conducting observations of target species of amphibians and reptiles and their habitats;

Activity 2: Conducting observations of target species of bats and their habitats;

Activity 3: Implementation of fire-fighting activities – establishing of fire-fighting depots and conducting trainings for the stakeholders;

Activity 4. Cleaning of accidentally dropped waste within the habitats of the target species of amphibians and reptiles;

Activity 5. Implementation of fire-fighting activities – cleaning of roads;

Activity 6. Improvement of suitable habitats for the target species – restoration of old watering places;

Activity 7. Improvement of suitable habitats for the target species – formation of natural depressions in the relief;

Activity 8. Production and distribution of printed and communication materials;

Activity 9. Work with the stakeholders;

Activity 10. Implementation of information and communication measures;

Activity 11. Ancillary activities – providing legal assistance;

Activity 12. Project organization and management.

The total duration of the project is 33 months.
