Project Summary
The project contributes to one of the key objectives of the Management Plan of Central Balkan National Park, namely: “To maintain an optimal level of knowledge and ensure the long-term monitoring of biodiversity within the park.”
The monitored species include mammals such as the brown bear, chamois, European souslik, wolf, and red deer, as well as raptors including the golden eagle, peregrine falcon, long-legged buzzard, griffon vulture, and others.
The monitoring methods applied under the project include:
- Camera trapping
- GPS telemetry
- Visual observations
- Mapping of key species habitats
- Analysis of field data
Through this project, the Science for Nature Foundation aims to enhance the conservation of rare and threatened species in the park by:
- Conducting research and monitoring of population status
- Identifying and assessing current threats and pressures on species
- Updating and maintaining the park’s biodiversity database
The project is implemented within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the Science for Nature Foundation and the Directorate of Central Balkan National Park.
