RiverLIFE focuses on the conservation of the stone crayfish, a species of critical importance for the health and resilience of river ecosystems in Bulgaria.
Projects
Our projects are dedicated to the conservation of natural resources, the protection of biodiversity, and the promotion of sustainable development. We focus on the preservation of threatened species and enhancing the ecological integrity of their habitats. Our core activities encompass ecosystem restoration, mitigation of threats to species and habitats, and systematic monitoring of wildlife and plant populations.
By integrating scientific research with evidence-based conservation practices, our work contributes to more resilient ecosystems and a sustainable future for both nature and society.
Conservation of cave-dwelling bat species
The project aims to conserve seven species of cave-dwelling bats by restoring and maintaining the entrances and the microclimatic conditions of seven caves.
Habitat Sakar
We develop safe roosting and breeding refuges while restoring key habitats within Natura 2000 protected areas.
Habitat Danube
We improve the conservation status of threatened species and habitats in the Nikopol Plateau and Persina through targeted conservation actions and active engagement of the local community in safeguarding natural heritage.
For bats and people
In the Eastern Rhodopes, the natural habitats of bats are being restored, their roosting sites are being safeguarded, and local communities are being engaged to support the long-term conservation of biodiversity.
Bats and men – sharing LIFE under one roof
The first LIFE project in Bulgaria for the conservation of bats combines innovative conservation measures for protecting bats in Bulgaria with the restoration of key habitats.
